What a Hoot! Falmouth Track Club at the New Bedford Santa Run

Or should that be ... what a ho ho ho!! Several FTC members made the trip over the bridge for the Santa Sightings 5K Fun Run in New Bedford on December 10.

Coffee-O and Track Workouts Continue All Year

The 5-mile Coffee-O runs every week, regardless of weather, in Falmouth on Friday at 5:30. Now that it is dark at 5:30, reflective clothing is required, and many of the runners like to use a flashlight or miner's light. See this page for location and other information. The club holds track workouts at Falmouth High School at 5:30 Wednesdays, year-round. During the winter the lights are on, so even if you don't want to do a structured workout, come to the track for a chance to run under the lights. Write to coach Jim Preisig at jpreisig@gmail.com to get on his notification list. These workouts are cancelled in heavy rain or other inclement weather, or if there's snow or ice on the track. (But we're not having any ice this winter ... we used it all up LAST winter.)

The Falmouth Track Club is composed of individuals and families who participate in and support running, road racing, and walking. We are based in the beach community of Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Most of our active members live in Falmouth and surrounding towns of the Upper Cape such as Bourne, Mashpee and Sandwich, but our membership list includes individuals from other towns of Cape Cod and the Islands, many parts of Massachusetts, and states as far away as Florida and California. Our personal goals include athletic achievement, personal satisfaction, and enjoyment. Our club seeks to encourage youth as well as adults to run and walk for competition, recreation, fitness and pleasure. Our club offers a program of race entry fee reimbursement to its active members.

Our three road races have been in existence since the 1970s. They are the Seagull Six (actually 5.74 miles) held in early April, the Main Street Mile held in September, and the Cape Cod Marathon and Relay held in late October. We also offer the Coffee-O (founded in 1997), a weekly self-timed 5-mile fun run each Friday evening at 5:30 out of Town Hall Square in Falmouth. The club offers to its members a weekly coached track workout throughout the year and a summer running program for children and teens. There is a series of fun runs held at members' homes in the winter.

The Falmouth Track Club also offers a full-service race timing service featuring a unique and widely recognized starter's cannon. Click on the link at the top of this page for more info.

Every year the FTC is able to make substantial donations to local charities. We also help out with a number of other community volunteer projects such as a clean-up of a well-traveled local street in the spring. In 2007 we even helped build a playground in town.
