About Us

The Falmouth Running Club is composed of individuals and families who participate in and support running, road racing, and walking. We are based in the beach community of Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Most of our active members live in Falmouth and surrounding towns of the Upper Cape such as Bourne, Mashpee and Sandwich, but our membership list includes individuals from other towns of Cape Cod and the Islands, many parts of Massachusetts, and states as far away as Florida and California. Our personal goals include athletic achievement, personal satisfaction, and enjoyment. Our club seeks to encourage youth as well as adults to run and walk for competition, recreation, fitness and pleasure.

Our road races have been in existence since the 1970s, and a trail race was added to the roster in 2014. They are the Seagull Six (actually 5.74 miles) held in late March/early April, The Cape Cod Trail Race held mid April, The Women Run Cape Cod 5k on Mother’s Day, the Surf Drive Mile (formerly Main Street Mile) held in late May. Then we have the Cape Cod Marathon, Half Marathon, 5k, Relay and Chowdah Challenge held the 1st weekend in October. We also offer the Friday Night Five-Miler (founded in 1997), a weekly self-timed 5-mile fun run each Friday evening at 5:30 out of Town Hall Square in Falmouth. The club offers to its members a weekly coached track workout for adults on Wednesday evenings, as well as a Walk & Talk program through the Women’s Initiative. The club also hosts a summer running program for children and teens. There is a fun run held at Aquatic Brewing on Sunday mornings and occasional fun runs from the FRC Office.

Every year the FRC is able to make substantial donations to local charities. We also help out with a number of other community volunteer projects such as a clean-up of a well-traveled local street in the spring.

On February 16, 2021 the Falmouth Track Club membership voted to change the club’s name to Falmouth Running Club. Supporting reasons to make such a momentous change were:

  • Club membership is at an all time low and needs changes and incentives to keep current members interested and motivated and to attract new members. The name change is just one part of the complete package
  • This new “Falmouth Running Club” name will make it easier to promote and market the club and will better enable us to partner with other groups in town as we move toward becoming more inclusive
  • Replacing the word “Track” with “Running” will also send a more friendly, social message and make the club name more inviting and less intimidating to potential new members
  • In reality, the club is not a “Track” club, but rather a running club for all levels of runners and walkers
  • We are not throwing away the Falmouth Track Club or dismissing any of its history. Quite the contrary. As the club evolves, the changes we are implementing are allowing us to build on the great work that has been accomplished by many dedicated members over many years. As we implement our new initiatives and move into our newly renovated office space this spring, we believe now is also the perfect time for a new name and new logo.
