Falmouth Track Club

Board of Directors Meeting

Oct 17, 2005

The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Falmouth Track Club was held at the Quarterdeck Restaurant on Oct 17, 2005. The meeting was called to order at 7:37 P.M. by President Russ Pelletier. Present were Joan Pelletier, Carolyn and Courtney Bird, Terry McKee, Bob Richards, Doris Beatty, Pat O’Brien, Don Frederickson, Ellen McCray, Jack and Wendy Carroll, Mike Norton, Glen Rogers, Helen Kennedy, Kris Tholke, Janet Folger, Jim Preisig, Dana Delorme, Ed Giordano and Mary Peterson.

The meeting was held primarily to discuss the future of the Falmouth Track Club.

Some other issues mentioned were that the Cape Cod Marathon is sold out with 1200 marathoners and 180 relay teams. There are also 70 ironrunners who will have completed all the USATF Grand Prix races.

Don Facey’s Falmouth in the Fall is also full.

Russ indicated that we need to plan ahead for vacancies in club positions. He would like people to step forward now, to begin training to take over a position in 1-2 years. For example, Russ indicated that 2007 would be his last year as Relay Race Director. That gives us 2 years to train 1 or 2 people to take over.

Russ indicated that the best situation is for us to have 2 or 3 members connected with critical positions. He sited the Seagull 6 Road Race and the great job the Mike Norton and Pete Sampson have done. With 2 people in this position, there is always a back up should something happen with one or the other.

He would also like to get more youth involvement in the club and more youth events.

Much discussion was held concerning the newsletter and the lack of 4 issues a year. Among the points discussed were:

  • Do we need a hand held newsletter?
  • Should the newsletter be an e-newsletter instead?
  • How can we effectively utilize the people that want to help with the newsletter?

Jack & Russ will meet with Ken following the upcoming road races.

Jack & Russ will also meet with the newsletter committee to try to get the newsletters out on a more regular basis.

Should we have a promotional brochure available to bring to events and encourage membership? Ellen Mecray agreed to create a brochure from information already available and what is sent to her.

Patty O’Brien and Dana DeLorme have agreed to be co-directors of the Main Street Mile. They will assist director Mike Sbrocco.

Helen Kennedy has agreed to assume the role of Youth Events Coordinator.

Pat and Dana are also interested in encouraging youth participation.

Maggie will help Russ out with the “Events” page of the website. Russ indicated that he would like 2 more people to assist with the website.

Don Fredrickson will help Doris with membership.

Courtney would like to think seriously about phasing someone in over the next 5 years as CCM director.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:43.

Next meeting November 28, at 7:15 at the Quarterdeck
