Jane Johnston Wins Her First Coffee-O-Five in Her Last Try

The calendar may have said it was spring, but it felt like a cold
winter night at the Coffee-O-Five this week. It was 29 degrees and very
windy. Only 18 runners braved the elements this week, and with the
exception of a personal best time by Al Price, the times weren’t
particularly fast.

The woman’s race was up for grabs this week as four time winner,
Juliette White, was out at sea on an SEA boat somewhere where it was
warm.

Jane Johnston garnered her first Coffee-O-Five win in her last
appearance at the event. Ms. Johnston and her husband, John, will be
moving to sunny California next week and leaving their many Falmouth
Track Club friends behind. She crossed the line in just over 40 minutes
to edge Joanne Corsano by about four minutes. Leslie Green took third
in a shade over 50 minutes, which was one of her best finishes in the
event.

Mike Ouimet out-kicked Jeff List for second place in the men’s
race. Pete Sampson, the Falmouth High School track coach, ran together
with Steve Hamel in a tie for fourth.

The Coffee-O-Five is held every Friday night at 5:30. There is no
entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners are invited to
participate. The next “real races” on the local running scene are the
Seagull Six Spring Classic on April 7th and the Chase the Patriot
cross-country race on April 15th.
