Coffee O Five Runners Ditch Reflective Running Vests For the Season

Thirty runners braved the cold 35 degree night for Friday’s
Coffee-O-Five. Some of the regulars were home resting for Sunday’s 25th
running of the Seagull Six Road Race, while others opted to run both
races with just a day in between to recover. This was the last running
of the race before the adjusting of the clocks for daylight savings
time, which meant that everyone could go home and put their reflective
running vests in storage until next October.

Mike Ouimet led the way this week with a time of just under 31
minutes. Mr. Ouimet will be toeing the line in Hopkington next Monday
for his first Boston Marathon. Dan Frye took second as he broke 33
minutes for his first time in several years. Tim Jones came out of his
winter hibernation without losing a step. His fourth place time of
33:53 was a good effort for him and certainly the fastest time of the
year for a Wood Lumberyard man.

Jessica Baker took the women’s race with a time of 34:49. She is
the first woman to crack the 35 minute mark this year. Stace Beaulieu
and Lindsay Dutton finished together with a time of 42:48 in a tie for
second place. For Ms. Dutton it was her first Coffee-O-Five.

Twelve-year-old John Hough may have had the run of the night as the
young lacrosse player from Falmouth Academy chopped a whopping 20
minutes off of his previous best Coffee-O-Five time. He set off with a
pair of regular sneakers and a borrowed pair of gloves and didn’t even
look winded as he trotted across the line in just over 47 minutes.

The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile race held at 5:30 every
Friday night at Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee
required for this self-timed event and free thirst squelching beverages
are often available afterwards, courtesy of Coffee Obsession.
