Weather Clears for Friday
the Thirteenth Coffee O
For the first time in weeks, it was a good-weather-running
night for
the Coffee-O-Five. The streets were free of snow, and there was no wind
or
rain. It was Friday the thirteenth, but that didn¹t deter 22
un-superstitious runners and a half a dozen walkers.
Many runners paired up in groups of two or three this week. Jeff
Fumarola finished his first Coffee-O-Five in over two months. The Cape¹s
fastest bartender didn¹t lose much speed in hiatus, as he teamed
up with
Mike Norton to finish in a tie for second with a time of 31 minutes
flat.
Steve Hamel, Terry Souza, and Pete Landry all raced in together in just
over
35 minutes to tie for fourth. Jeff Hamilton held on as well for most
of the
way, and he finished his first Friday night run since injuring his knee.
Stace Beaulieu was the first woman this week as she bested Liz Waldman
by less than a minute. Ms. Waldman and her husband, Rich, both successfully
finished the Dublin Marathon earlier this fall. Joanne Corsano edged
Judi
Keller for third. Laurie Fife rounded out the top five for the woman.
It
was Ms. Fife¹s first Friday nighter in a couple of months.
The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five-mile run and a 2.4-mile walk, which
is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There
is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners and walkers
are
invited to participate. Reflective clothing of some sort is required
through the winter.
