Twenty total for last Coffee O of the year
December 27, 2002
It was a perfect night for a run and 16 runners and 4 walkers took
part
in the last Coffee-O-Five of the year. Eva Tharp of Andover, Connecticut
was the first woman across the line. She finished with a time of 42:42.
While many of the regulars have a hard time driving across town to make
the
5:30 start on time, Ms. Tharp drove all the way from her home in Connecticut
just to take in the run. She is in the midst of running 8 races in 9
days,
scattered throughout New England.
After finishing her fine run, she stopped long enough to swill a cup
or two of steaming hot chocolate, and then jumped in her jeep and set
off for her three-hour ride back home. Next up on her tough schedule
is a race in Springfield the following day.
Steve Hamel made the long mile and a half trek from his house in Falmouth
Heights to participate and he ran down Brian Nelson to take second over-all.
Bob Crowley made one of his rare appearances and finished a strong fourth,
just a couple of minutes ahead of Paul Hartel.
Liz Waldman was the second woman across the line, just 30 seconds out
of first place. Karin Lebherz-Smith and Lisa LeBlanc of Naples, Florida
ran
together in a tie for third. Judi Keller rounded out the top five for
the
women.
The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which
is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There
is
no registration required for this self-timed event and all runners and
walkers are welcome to participate and usher in the new year at next
Friday¹s run. Reflective clothing is required through the winter.
