Friday Night 5 Mile Coffee O Results
Bird Notches Coffee-O-Five Win
Eighteen runners raced braved the warm rain on Friday night
at the Coffee-O-Five. Most were looking
at dismal times at the three mile mark, but with the help of a rocketing southwest
tail-wind on Surf Drive
they dropped 30 to 40 seconds per mile in the last two miles of the race.
John Evans came drove down from Boston in his old beat up
car and clocked a time of just over 31 minutes. Some people theorized afterwards
that John may actually be faster than his car. Mike Ouimet edged Mike
Norton by a few seconds for third place. Steve Hamel took fifth, just 30 seconds
ahead of Ben Pring.
Carolyn Bird’s persistence paid off this week. Ms. Bird
who has run well over 200 Friday night runs,
chalked up her first win this week in quite a while. She edged Kay Carr by
a minute. Things were kind of quiet after the race this week. Tommy Leonard,
the official Coffee-O-Five starter, was off in California soaking up
rays and most probably enjoying himself to the fullest.
The Coffee-O-Five is held every Friday night at 5:30 PM from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee or registration required for this self-timed event and all runners are welcome to participate. Reflective running vests are required hopefully for only a few more weeks.
