Peterson Chalks Up First Coffee-O-Five PR of the Year

Twenty runners ushered in the new year with the first Coffee-O-Five of the year. The runners were
starting at all different times this week.The main pack left at 5:30 as usual but Carolyn Bird snuck her
run in early in the day during daylight hours. Judi Keller got a half hour jump on the main pack with
her own 5:00 start, while Paul Hartel showed up late as he normally does, and started at 6:30, just as
the last runner was finishing.

Jim O’Connor got lost again for the second week in a row, which may be an event record. He promptly
went home to study the course map in detail. He wasn’t the only runner to go off course, as several other
runners got confused in the darkness this week. Penny Christo, who is running for Bates College, also
veered off course but still managed to regroup and finish first for the women. Mike Norton, a Coffee-O-Five
veteran with many Coffee-O-Five wins in under his belt, also took a wrong turn and somehow never
completed the entire run.

Mary Peterson chalked up the first PR of the new year, as she raced home with a personal best 5 mile
time of 50:47, just 47 seconds off her ultimate goal of the year. She was escorted through the course by her
running partners: Doris Beatty, Linda Dalton, and Joanne Flich.

The Coffee-O--Five is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no
entry fee or registration required for this self timed event and all runners are invited to participate.
Reflective running vests are required through the winter.
