It was seventy-nine degrees and very very humid for this week’s
Coffee-O-Five. Fifty-seven runners and another seventeen walkers took
part. John Hasson of Milton chalked up his 50th Coffee-O-Five run and
now has raced 250 miles over the scenic seaside course.

Don Lunn of Waquoit still hasn’t missed any of the walks. The 2.4 mile walk was
added to the event about two months ago.

Jessica Baker wasn’t bothered by the oppressive weather and she
somehow managed to sprint home with a personal best five mile time. She
ran stride for stride with Jeff List and crossed the line in just under
33 minutes. Nancy Correia chopped 15 seconds off her time of last week
and took second place with a time of 34:16. Erika Laseck-Nesselquitst
edged Lynn Holmgren for third place. Judi Keller also turned in a very
good time. She ran along side her husband, Fred, to take fifth in just
over 40 minutes.

Chris George and Justin Neviackas were the pace setters for almost
the entire race. The two runners battled each other in a two man duel
and led the field through four and a half miles. Then the heat took a
toll on both of them.

Eric Critzer just floated by the two tiring runners and turned a 20 second deficit at 4 miles into a 20 second margin of victory at 5 miles. Brian Nelson also came on strong from behind and he grabbed fourth place. Chris George hung on gamely and he managed to hold off Luc Claessens for fifth by just one second.

The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile road race which is held
every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee for this self-timed event, nor are there any grand and
glorious prizes awarded.

Ice cold bottled water is generously supplied after the race by the Coffee Obsession coffeeshop. A 2.4 mile walk is also held for those who are not up to running five miles.
