Largest Field of the Year Invades Coffee-O-Five

Town Hall Square was the place to be on Friday night for those who
wanted a workout. Fifty-one runners, which was a season high, completed
the scenic five mile run. Another 17 walkers sauntered home in the new
2.5 mile walk. In three weeks the Coffee-0-Five run will celebrate its
five year anniversary.

A couple of old Falmouth High runners and a couple of new Falmouth
High track men dominated the top spots this week. Duncan
Smith-Rohrberg, a former Falmouth High running ace, streaked home in
second place with a time of 30 minutes flat. Brian Nelson, a former
teammate come home just a couple of minutes later to nab fourth place.

Todd Kirkman and Mike Stone, two of coach Pete Sampson’s new recruits,
finished in sixth and seventh place respectively. They were the early
pace setters and both held on to chop over a minute off their times of
last week.

Laura Hutchinson, another former Falmouth High running ace, led a
very fast womens field. She clocked a time of 34:34, which was one of
the top womens times of the year.

Lynn Holmgren of East Sandwich took second in 36 minutes and Pauline
Lim followed a minute later. Nancy Correia is on the comeback trail, and
she posted a time of 39:51 to takefifth place, just five seconds behind Kris Tholke.

Many other runners in the field turned in good efforts. Pete
Landry, who is a Coffee-O-Five regular, nailed a personal best time of
34:24. Rick Rizzatano broke 40 minutes for his first time in quite a
while.

The Plant brothers finished stride for stride in 36:20. The Coffee-O-Five is
a weekly five mile run from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry
fee for this self-timed event and all runners are welcome to participate. A non
competitive 2.4 mile walk is also held in conjunction with the run. Coffee
Obsession graciously drops off the world’s largest cooler filled with ice cold
water every week for the athletes to enjoy. There is also a water stop at the half
way mark of the run which is manned by the friendly people of Elm Road.
