Persistance Pays off for Ms. Keller

Although it was a balmy 52 degrees, only 20 runners and eight walkers showed up for this week’s Coffee-O-Five. The fog may have deterred some of the field this week, while others were saving their energy for Sunday’s Second Annual Falmouth Track Club Golf Tournament.

Many of the Friday regulars shelved their running shoes for the week in order to concentrate on their pathetic golf games. Judi Keller nabbed first for the women this week with a time of 44:22. Ms. Keller is a veteran of over 100 Coffee-O-Fives and this was her first over-all women’s win. Mary Olenick and Karen Smith-Rohrberg ran together in a sort of social outing, and they ended up in second place. Carolyn Bird took fourth for the women.

Up front it was another one of those friendly three way ties. This week it was Steve Hamel who joined Jeff List, the great pumpkin grower, up front. Pete Landry, who actually was once a good golfer, took fourth in 35 minutes flat. Chris Risto nabbed fifth for one of his first top five finishes. Paul Hartel finished a strong seventh but then was faced with a seven mile run back home after finding himself locked out of his car. Fortunately he found a kind soul to bail him out.

The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee and all runners and walkers are invited to participate. Reflective clothing is required through the winter. Next up on the local running schedule is the annual Thanksgiving Day Race through scenic Beebe Woods. The race starts at 8:30 from Falmouth Academy.
