It was cold and rainy and windy for this week’s Coffee-O-Five. It
was not really a run night for a run, but still 30 runners and 10 hard
core walkers showed up for the event.

Greg Stone posted the time to beat, as he toured the course in
30:30 earlier in the day. It was the fastest five mile time the veteran
runner has turned in for a long time. His time stood up for third place
over-all.

Maureen Copeland won the women’s race by a mile as the
nineteen-year-old collegiate cross country runner streaked home in
33:26. Chris Freeman, who is another student at SEA, finished just two
seconds behind Ms. Copeland. Chris Scott edged Stace Beaulieu for
second place in the women’s race as both runners finished in just a
shade over 40 minutes.

Ann Tarrant of Woods Hole and Peter Landry of Teaticket both turned
in personal best five mile times on a very tough night to run fast. Mr.
Landry should crack 34 minutes with ease on a better night. Jack
Whitehead started 30 minutes late and ran solo to finish in the dark
with a time of just under 50 minutes.

The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which
is open to everyone. There is no entry fee, nor are there any grand and
glorious prizes awarded. The event starts at Town Hall Square in
Falmouth at 5:30. Ice cold water is generously supplied by the event
sponsor, Coffee-Obsession.
