Flaherty and Tholke Take Firsts,
Record Walking Field at Coffee O Five
There was a small field at this weeks Coffee-O-Five. Many of the
regulars were resting for Sundays Cape Cod Marathon or Marathon
Relay,
while others were too busy helping to plan the big event to squeeze
in a
Friday night run.
For the first time ever, there were more walkers in the field than runners.
Fourteen runners crossed the line this week, while a season high nineteen
walker strolled across the line.
Rob Flaherty set the early pace and held on for his first ever Coffee-O-Five
victory. The running doctor, finished in just over 34 minutes. Steve
Hamel took third and Ben Pring finished fourth. Mr. Pring knocked over
6 minutes off his time of last week. Mike Garry, chalked up his first
top five finish as he came very close to cracking
the forty minute mark for the fist time in quite a while. Mr. Garry
is one of the rugged Coffee O regulars who manages to show up almost
every week.
Kris Tholke was the first woman to finish this week as she finished
in one tick under forty minutes. Ann Tarrant ran a personal best time
for the third week in a row en route to a second place finish as she
cracked 41 minutes for her first time. Sharon Napier edged Judi Keller
for third and Lauren Johnson-Lavender took fifth.
Doris Beatty and Judy Watkins led the walkers. Don Lunn still hasnt
missed a Friday night walk in over three months. The Rannie and Halloran
families both fielded three family member in the walk. Little Caleb
Joseph Gartner even made his first Friday night appearance
as he rolled across the line in forty-four minutes or so.
The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which
is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There is no entry fee and all are invited. Reflective running gear will
now be required through the dark doldrums of winter.
