Surprise..... No Rain for Coffee O Fivers
April 18, 2003
Twenty-six runners and half a dozen walkers took part in the annual
Good
Friday edition of the Coffee-O-Five. Some of the regulars were sitting
this
one out to rest for Monday¹s Boston Marathon. Others were resting
for the
cross-country ³Chase the Patriot Run,² which was to be held
on Saturday
morning at Falmouth Academy.
Four of the top five runners stormed across the line within one minute
of one another. Chris Sherwood edged Chris Legualt by just 11 seconds
to
snare second place. Pete Landry crossed the line another 15 seconds
later
with big Tim Jones hot on his heels. Mr. Jones finally made his 2003
Coffee-O-Five debut after several earlier planned appearances were kind
of
rained out. Al Price also finished his first Coffee-O-Fiver of 2003.
He
finished in sixth place with a time of 37 minutes flat. Even the Hawk
showed up this week. The tap puller from Litchfield, CT soared into
town
the night before for a public relations engagement.
Joanna York finished in a tie for first to garner her first ever Coffee-O-Five
³co-win.² Ms. York ran with Stace Beaulieu and the two women
finished in just over 42 minutes. Sharon Napier edged Judi Keller by
just six seconds for third, while Joanne Corsano out-legged Madeleine
Marken for fifth.
The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile noncompetitive
walk, which is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square
in
Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners
and walkers are invited to participate.
