Hot, Hazy, and Humid at Coffee O Five
August 1st, 2003
The dog days of August have arrived it was hot, it was humid,
and it was
just a miserable night for a run. Forty-eight runners and half a dozen
walkers foraged through the thick steamy air this week at the Coffee
O Five.
The post race water was definitely a hot commodity this week.
Bill Solimine led the way and chalked up his third win in three tries
this year. Todd Kirkman, another one of Pete Sampson¹s talented
harriers
for the Falmouth High cross- country team, finished a strong second
just 2
minutes back. Despite the oppressive weather, Mr. Kirkman¹s time
of 30:28
was a personal best by over a minute. Justin Neviackas edged Tim Cronin
by
a few yards for third. Chris George, a summer Coffee O regular, took
fifth
with his best effort of the year.
Wendy Stafford also garnered her third Coffee O Five win of the year.
Ms. Stafford who always seems to run 36 minutes and change regardless
of the
conditions, ran 36 minutes and change. Kris Tholke edged Eileen Miskell
for
second. Making their first Coffee appearances in quite some time were
Mary
Olenick and Monica Hough. They finished fourth and fifth respectively
in
just over 43 minutes.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile road race and 2.4 mile walk.
It
starts and finishes at 5:30 every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall
Square
in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all
runners
and all runners and walkers are welcome to participate.
