Snow Storm Hits Coffee O Five

The Coffee O Five runners were forced to deal with the first winter
storm of the year and it was still only fall. Sixteen runners sloshed and
skated through three inches of snow and battled a tough northeast headwind
on Surf Drive. There were no spectators this week other than a curious
coyote on Elm Road and a very large fox on Walker Street.
The snow didn¹t slow Jeff List as he strapped on his secret snow spikes
and bolted off to a large early lead. He held on to finish in a shade over
32 minutes, which was one of his best times of the year. Brian Nelson edged
Brandon Dugan for third by just three seconds. Dave McPherson picked a tough
night for one of his rare Coffee O appearances and he cracked the top five
with a time of 36 minutes and change.
Wendy Stafford skated home alongside Jack Carroll to take first for the
women. Caroline Roberts edged Judi Keller by half a minute for second.
Joanne Corsano was fourth for the women. For the first time in a year and a
half there were no walkers in the field. Even Don Lunn, the infamous walking
man of Waquoit sat this one out.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee and reflective running gear is required in the winter. Of
special noteŠ.there will be a special high noon running of the event on
Friday December 26th, for those who took that day off from work to play with
their new presents.
