Valentines Day Romp
February 14, 2003
Most husbands were busy buying flowers or preparing to take their
wives
out for romantic dinners this past Friday on Valentines Day. However,
six
sorry poor excuses for husbands, instead chose to run through the 20
degree
dark night over ice laden roads. Apparently the weekly Coffee-O-Fiver
was
more important then normal Valentines Day type festivities. Afterwards
some
did rush home to their spouses (empty handed of course), while others
instead opted to stop off for a cold one with the boys before heading
on
home.
Jeff List showed up with a fancy pair of special ice cleats this
week. They worked wonders over the icy stretches, where he streaked
ahead
to large leads but in the end he had to settle for second place. Jack
Carrol and Bob Richards took third and fourth. Mike Garry turned in
one of
his slowest efforts ever, and still ended up with one of his highest
finishes. The North Falmouth nail pounder pulled up lame half way through
the run and ended up limping back home to the finish.
Courtney Bird rounded out the men¹s field, while Carolyn Bird
ran
uncontested to her second women¹s victory in a row. The walker¹s
field
increased to three walkers this week. Barbara and Don Lunn completed
a
romantic moon-lit stroll together. Leslie Fotiu walked early on a solo
jaunt through town.
The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile and 2.4 mile walk, which is
held every week from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry
fee
for this self timed event and all runners and welcome are welcome to
participate. Steaming hot cocoa is generously supplied afterwards by,
Coffee Obsession, the event sponsor.
