Webb sets new Coffee-O-Five Record
It was still snowing and there was a foot of snow on the ground when
the Coffee-O-Five runners lined up Friday night for the five mile run.
Just
six runners and one walker showed up and the finishing times were all
very
slow. Courtney and Carolyn Bird slogged through the course earlier in
the
day and made it through unscathed. Not all were that fortunate this
week.
Jeff List started out with snowshoes, but quickly ditched them after
less then half a mile. Mr. List ended up taking two hard spills on the
slick surface before loping into Town Hall Square for a second place
finish.
Dann Webb, who completed the Key West Half Marathon just two weeks previous,
found the snow a bit of a challenge. He took three spills during the
course of the run, which is a new Coffee-O
record.
Paul Hartel had a couple of close calls but made it through the course
without
hitting the ground.
Pat Vasconcellos forgot her coat so Donn Lunn was left to do the walk
solo. It took the determined Waquoit carpenter so long to forage through
the elements that a rescue party was sent out from the Quarterdeck to
search
for him. He was found on Main Street huffing and puffing as he plodded
through the snow towards the finish.
The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which
is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There
is
no entry fee for this self timed event and all runners and walkers are
invited to participate. Reflective running vests are required through
the
winter.
