Friday Night
5 Mile Coffee O Results

Frigid Conditions Don't Deter Coffee-O Crew Buzzards Bay hasn't frozen over since 1980, and a water line burst under Main Street. But the frigid temperatures did not deter sixteen hardy souls from running the Coffee-O Five last Friday night. Actually, the temperature was a balmy 26 degrees at the start. Michele Bianchini, who rarely encounters such cold conditions in his native Italy, blasted off at the start, chased by David Stulbe and Stephen Roe. Bianchini built a lead in the first 3 miles, held on in the last 2 miles up Surf Drive and Walker Street, and finished in a time of 33:01. Stulbe and Roe had Bianchini in their sights, but could not catch him. Lynn Holmgren of East Sandwich captured first place among the women in a time of 35:50, followed by two veterans, Madeleine Marken and Carolyn Bird. Steaming hot cocoa from the Coffee-O welcomed the runners back. The Coffee-O Five Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event, and all runners are invited. The wearing of reflective vests or clothing is highly recommended.
