Large Fast Field at Coffee O Five
July 18, 2003
It¹s summer time in Falmouth and that brought out the largest
Coffee O
Five field of the year and also one of the fastest over-all fields
in quite
some time. Fifty-six runners and half a dozen walkers took part in
this
week¹s festivities.
Two old 43-year-old guys led the field at just over five and a half
minute per mile pace. Bill Solimine showed he is fully recovered from
a
long battle with a knee injury as he won the race with a time of 27:36,
which was the second fastest time posted this year. Mel Gonsalves,
a former
Falmouth running ace, broke out of his semi-retirement and took third
place
with a time of 28 minutes and change. Eric Critzer, a current Falmouth
running ace, loped home in fourth with a time of 29 minutes. Stephen
Roe
out-distanced Mike Oumet for fifth.
Lynn Holmgren bested Jess Baker as she chalked up another Coffee O
victory. Ms. Holmgren¹s time of 32:42 was a personal best and
also the
fastest women¹s time posted this year. Sharon Napier took third
in just a
shade over 40 minutes. Eileen Miskell edged Joanna York for fourth
place in
the women¹s race.
After the race many of the hot, thirsty, and hungry runners flocked
over
to the second annual Coffee O Five summer pool party and cookout.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile road race and 2.4 mile walk
that is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners and
walkers
are invited to participate.
