Four Fast Fifty Year Olds Highlight Coffee O Five
October 17, 2003
Forty-one runners and a dozen walkers enjoyed a perfect night for
a run
or a walk this Friday night at the Coffee O Five. Most finished before
dark
but reflector vests will most likely be needed next week unless one
is very
very fast.
Steve Ruane raced home in 29:37, which was his fastest five-miler
in a
couple of years and good enough for second place. Following Steve
were four
fast fifty year olds. Steve Hamel nabbed third in just under 32 minutes.
It was the fastest five-mile time in over a year for the Falmouth
Track Club
president despite the fact he had to stop twice to tie his shoes.
Michelle
Bianchini passed through town long enough to take in the five miler
before
returning to his home in Venice, Italy. He finished in a shade over
32
minutes to take fourth. Dana Miskell edged David Farrell of Barrington,
Rhode Island for fifth with a time of just over 33 minutes.
It was another tight women¹s race as the top five women all finished
within two minutes of one another. Pauline Lim led the way as she
edged
Sharon Grace by just 20 seconds. Kathleen Savage took third and Eileen
Miskell took fourth with a time of 39:34, which was her personal best
five-mile time. Kris Tholke edged Liz Waldman for fifth.
Pam MacDonald of Taunton led a crew of 12 walkers through the 2.4-mile
walk.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which
is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There is
no entry fee for this self timed event and all runners and walkers
are
invited to participate. Reflective running gear of some sort should
be used
starting next week.
