Fast Night For Coffee O Fivers.... Personal Best Times Abound


It was a perfect fall night for a run at this week¹s Coffee O Five and
over-all most of the forty runners were very pleased with their times. Four
runners chalked up personal best times and many others chalked up their best
times of the year. The cool brisk air coupled with the strong tail-wind
over the last two miles just made it difficult to run slow this night.
Fourteen walkers strode the 2.4 mile course as well.
It was just a lame five way tie for first place over-all as five guys
pranced into Town Hall Square running abreast and settled for an intentional
tie. Steve Hamel followed in sixth and his time of 32:15 was a full minute
faster than his previous season¹s best time. Brian McDevitt had a fine run
as he finished in just over 39 minutes which a personal best for him.
The women had a real race as Sharon Grace edged Karin Smith by just 10
seconds. Ms. Grace crossed the line in 37:35, which knocked a full minute
off her five-mile personal best time. It was also the first Coffee O Five
win for the speedster from North Falmouth. Kris Tholke took third in just
over 39 minutes. Sabine Mecking and Caroline Roberts finished just seven
seconds apart to take fourth and fifth respectively. Both women finished
with their personal best five-mile times. Kelle List took seventh in 43:32,
which was a personal best time for her as well.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee and all runners and walkers are invited to participate.
