Friday Night
5 Mile Coffee O Results

Isabel a Coffee O Five No-Show
September 19, 2003

The predicted wind and rain from hurricane Isabel never really came and
instead it was just another great mid September night for a run. Thirty-one
runners and half a dozen walkers took part and no foul weather gear was
needed.

It was a two way tie for first and a three way tie for third this week,
kind of like a poker player¹s full house. Mike Norton legged out a time of
just over 29 minutes to tie for first. Finishing in a tie for third were
three government employees from Woods Hole. Scott Keene of the U.S. Coast
Guard made his Coffee-O-Five debut and finished in a dead heat with Ed
Sweeny and Steve Ruane. They all crossed the line in 32:48. Mr. Ruane and
Mr. Sweeny head up the newly formed Two-Thirty-Two-Racing-Team and Social
Club, which is headquartered in Woods Hole. Steve Hamel crossed the line
less than a minute later with his fastest time in over six months and seems
well on the road to recovery from a very tough injury.

The women¹s race was very close as the top five women all finished
within three minutes of one another. Kathleen Savage led the way in just
over 40 minutes. Terry Mckee took second in one of her rare Coffee O Five
appearances. Eileen Miskell edged Liz Waldman by a scant two seconds for
third. Nancy Correia may have been a shade off this week but she still
bounded home in fifth with a very fine effort of 43 minutes.

The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that
starts and finishes at Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee
for this self timed event and all runners and walkers are invited to
participate.
