Twenty Plus at Post April Fool's
Classic
April 2, 2004
The calendar said spring but it sure wasn¹t warm
enough for the switch
over to post race water instead of post race hot cocoa this Friday
night.
Twenty runners and four walkers participated in the Coffee O Five.
Some
were home resting for Sunday¹s Seagull Six Road Race, others
opted to gut
out both races as part of a weekend double header.
For Rachel Horwitz of Newton, it was her last Coffee O Five for a
while. Ms. Horwitz, a regular at the event all winter, finished in
just
over 39 minutes to take second for the women. Wendy Stafford led the
way in
36 minutes and change. Joanne Corsano trotted home in third place
with a
time of 48 minutes.
Dave Steube clocked one of his better times of the year en route to
a
second place finish. Scott Keene took third in his first Coffee O
Five of
the year. Ed Sweeney and Dave Stuebe actually cracked the top five
as well
but neglected to sign in. Their times remain a mystery and their finishing
prizes went up for grabs.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile race and 2.4 mile
non-competitive walk that is held every Friday night at 5:30 from
Town Hall
Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for these self-timed events
and
all runners and walkers are welcome to participate. The next major
local
running event is the Chase the Patriot cross country run on April
17th at
Falmouth Acadamy.
