Forty Plus at Coffee O
April 23, 2004
The five mile run in 55 degree weather was a piece of cake this
Friday
night for the four runners who had the pleasure or perhaps displeasure,
of
running 26.2 miles last week in Boston¹s 85 degree heat. Wendy
Stafford,
Jack Carroll, Bob Richards, and Jay Lively looked none the worse for
wear
and were just a shade off of their normal Friday night five-mile times
this
week.
The four tough hot weather runners were among the 36 runners and half
a
dozen walkers at this week¹s Coffee O Five. Rich Gori of Sandwich
led the
field through three miles before fading in the home stretch, he held
on for
a fifth place finish. Ulandt Kim out-kicked Ed Sweeney of Woods Hole
by a
scant ten second for third. Wendy Stafford out-legged Pauline Lim
by just
20 seconds to place first for the women.
Justin Widener took five minutes off his time of last week en route
to
a sixth place finish. Kelle List also chopped a full five minutes
off of
last week¹s time as she romped home to her fastest time of the
year. Laurie
Fife trotted home in just under 50 minute with her first Coffee O
run in
several months. Paul Hartel cracked the 40-minute mark for his first
time
of the year. A baffled little boy in a baby jogger named Caleb, found
himself being used as a relay baton in the walk as he was handed off
a few
times.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that
is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There
are no entry fees for these self-timed events and all runners and
walkers
are welcome to participate.
