45 Non Superstitious Runners at Coffee O Five
August 13, 2004
It was Friday the thirteenth, it was hot, and it was
oppressively humid
at the Coffee O Five. The good news was that the forecasted rain never
arrived. Forty-five runners toed the line this week.
Seventeen-year-old, Matt Poyton of Smithfield, RI, set the early pace
as he dashed through the first mile in 5:15. He slowed up after that
but
still held on for a strong second place finish at sub six minute pace
in his
Coffee O Five debut. Derick Harris, a harrier from Connecticut took
third
in just under 31 minutes.
Joe Cobb ran his first race as a forty-year-old and his time of 32
minutes was good enough for fourth. Jim Partan edged
fellow Woods Holer, Steve Ruane, for fifth by just a few seconds.
Pauline Lim took the women¹s race in 37:30. Rachel Horwitz finished
at
the front edge of a large pack of runners to take second. Her time of
38:52
was a new personal best. Alex Borst edged Lauren Kummer by a minute
for
third. Jeanne Cerulle cracked 42 minutes for her first time.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There
are no entry fees for these events and all runners and walkers are welcome
to participate. Coffee Obsession, of Falmouth and Woods Hole, generously
supplies post race water.
