Friday Night
5 Mile Coffee O Results

As Bad as it Gets
February 6, 2004

The Coffee O Five runners just can¹t get a break this year. There was
beautiful weather all week in Falmouth but when Friday night rolled around
the runners were met by pouring rain, wind, and a temperature of 34
degrees. It was simply a miserable night for a run and only five runners
gave it a try. They were forced to wade through ice-cold slush and plow
through countless knee-deep puddles. Trying to circumnavigate them was a
fruitless waste of time.

What were those five grown adults doing out there? Perhaps Emil
Zatopek, the great Czech runner from long ago best summed it up many years
ago "There is a great advantage in training under unfavorable conditions.
It is better to train under bad conditions, for the difference is then a
tremendous relief in a race,It is raining? That doesn¹t matter. I am
tired? That is besides the point".

Well nobody ran particularly fast but everyone made the top five this
week. The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee for these self timed events and all runners and walkers are
welcome to participate.
