Pre Fourth Attracts
Very Large Coffee O Field
July 2, 2004
The pre-fourth of July running of the Coffee O Five attracted it¹s
largest field in over two years. Sixty-one runners took part and they
came
from all over the country, from as far away as California, Texas,
Washington, Arizona, Georgia, and Minnesota.
Matt Clark, a former Barnstable High running ace, trotted home in
just
over 27 minutes without even breaking a sweat. The nineteen-year-old
speedster posted the fastest time run on the course this year. Ken
Gartner
and Cam Stracher of Westport, Ct. followed in second and third. D.J.
Fairbanks dipped under 30 minutes for his first time in several years
en
route to a fourth place finish. Jay Marshall of Boston rounded out
the top
five, while Don Frederickson edged big Dave Heffernan for sixth place.
For the second week in a row Nancy Correia found herself in another
nail biter. This week she took second, just seven seconds behind Sarah
Keller¹s time of 33:20. Lynn Holmgren returned for her first
Coffee O since
last fall and edged Wendy Stafford by half a minute for third. Ms.
Stafford
will be entering the ³old runner division² next week. Jeane
Cerulle runs
nine minute pace like clockwork, she finished in 45 minutes flat for
the
third time in three weeks.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that
is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There
are no entry fees for these self-timed events and all runners and
walkers
are welcome to participate.
