It was cold and dark and the wind was from the north-east. It wasn¹t
the best night to run. Twenty-two runners and a handful of walkers toed
the
line this week at the Coffee O Five.
It was a tight women¹s race this week and youth seemed to prevail.
Abigail Noble raced home for her first Coffee O win with a time of 35:28,
just 15 seconds ahead Wendy Stafford. Ms. Stafford will be running the
Marine Corp Marathon next week. Lynne Clay finished a strong third,
just
another 15 seconds back. Rachel Horwitz and Ann Tarrant crossed together
in
a tie for fourth.
Big Tim Jones, of the Green Racing Team, set the early time to beat
of
37:40. It held up for tenth place. Steve Faluotico¹s fastest two
miles
were run into the strong headwind on Surf Drivego figure. He finished
in
a shade over 30 minutes to tie for first. He would have cracked 29 if
he
hadn¹t run half way back to Woods Hole to retrieve his hat that
was whipped
off his head by the wind. Dave Stuebe and Jack Carroll took third and
fourth. Kenny Rogers of New Bedford rounded out the top five for the
men.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five-mile run and 2.4 mile walk that is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square. All runners and
walkers are invited to participate in these self-timed events. Runners
are
encouraged to dig out their reflective runners vests out of winters
storage
for next weeks run.
