Conflicting Sox Game Doesn't Deter Coffee O Fivers
October 8, 2004
Forty non die-hard Red Sox fans gathered in Town Hall Square this
Friday night for the Coffee O Five. When the gun sounded the Sox were
up
two to nothing, by the time everyone had finished the Sox were up
six to
one, by the time the runners had gone home and showered it was six
to six,
but by the time people were sitting down for their post race pizzas
the Sox
had won.
Greg Stone blitzed the course early in 29 minutes and his time stood
up
for the win. It was the best five-mile time for the aged veteran road
pounder in several years. It was a lame four-way tie for second (the
first
of two lame four way ties in the race). Kevin Leach edged Jack Carroll
for
sixth in a battle of fast fifty-two-year olds.
Wendy Stafford crossed the line on Pete Landry¹s heels and cracked
the
36-minute mark with plenty to spare. Rachel Horwitz crossed three
minutes
later to nab second for the women. Kara Lavender finished third in
just a
few tics over 40 minutes.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk that
is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There
are no entry fees for these self-timed events. There are just three
Fridays
left before the clocks get turned back and the reflector vests come
out of
winter storage.
