The thermometer said 34 degrees, but the howling south-west wind
made it seem a lot colder for the Coffee O Fivers this week. The
steaming post race hot cocoa, brewed personally by Coffee Obsession
owner Hugh Birmingham, was the highlight of the night for most.
In a battle of iron women, Stace Beaulieu edged Hannah Longworth
by just two seconds. After the race Ms. Longworth pedaled her bike
home into the howling headwind and Ms. Beaulieu trotted home, also into
the frigid gale. Everyone else jumped into their warm cars and drove
home. Laurie Fife, Joanne Corsano and Carolyn Bird rounded out the
women's top five.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run that is held every
Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. Reflective running gear is
required in the winter and post race hot cocoa is supplied by Coffee
Obsession. The event is sponsored by Coffee Obsession and the Falmouth
Track Club. The first annual Winter Solstice Mile is scheduled for
December 21st at the track behind the Gus Canty Recreation Center at
5:30 PM.
