The Coffee O Fivers had a big surprise this week as they headed
home down Surf Drive. Somehow a large portion of Vineyard Sound had
invaded Surf Drive. Some runners circumnavigated the water by running
down the beach, while others just plowed through the knee deep water.
Ben Hassey, a Falmouth High harrier, plowed through the water en
route to a third place finish. David Farrell made the commute from
Barrington, RI and took fourth place. Jack Carrol rounded out the top five.
Wendy Carroll raced home to win the women's race in 40 minutes and
change. Lucy Young edged Madeleine Marken and Laurie Fife by just six
seconds to nab second. Carolyn Bird trotted home in fifth.
The Pre Christmas Ho Ho Ho Five will be this Friday at 5:30 from
Town Hall Square in Falmouth. Also on tap this week is the first
annual Winter Solstice Mile that will be held at 5:30 PM on the Gus
Canty Track under the lights. The Coffee O Five is sponsored by the
Falmouth Track Club and Coffee Obsession.
