After ten years of Coffee O Fives, the race directors had thought they had seen everything but this week Bob Richards, a veteran of over 250 Coffee O Fives, showed up to the starting line in stocking feet. With the starting gun set to go off and Mr. Richards in quandry, an extra pair of running shoes were found in the back of Ken Gartner's truck. Mr. Richards shoved his size ten feet into the size nine shoes hobbled through the run.
Up front the Darrah brothers of Mashpee nabbed second and third, with Chris out legging his younger brother by 15 seconds. Kara Hass of Chelmsford raced home to take the women's race in 31:10, it was the fastest women's time of the year and also tied her personal best. Lara Polansky of Chicago took second with a personal best time...just one tic under 38 minutes, she crossed the line alongside Pete Landry.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth, all are invited and please bring your own shoes.
