June 22, 2007 -- The Tenth Anniversary Run
Seventy-one runners showed up to celebrate the ten year anniversary of the Coffee O Five. It was the second largest field ever. Thirteen runners toed the line ten years ago for the first Coffee O Five, which was actually called the Quarterdeck Five back then. Only two runners from the original lucky thirteen were in the race this week...Carolyn Bird, and Ken Gartner. Mr. Gartner, who won the inaugural race, eked out a win ten years later as well. Mike Stone, who won the Summer Solstice Mile the previous night, set the early pace and finished second with a personal best time of 28:27.
Stace Beaulieu won the women's race by a good two minutes in just under 36 minutes. Ali Smircina, the women's Summer Solstice Mile champ, nabbed second with the next three women hot on her heals.
The race started with a bright sunny and clear sky with and a warm temperature of 72 degrees, but finished under a dark cloud and pouring rain with a ten degree temperature drop. The Coffee O Five will continue hopefully for ten more years, every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
