It was another large summer crowd at the Cofee O Five this week with several runners chalking up some very fast times. Fifteen-year-old Teddy Farley, of Acton, and Matt Plant of Hatchville bolted to an early lead running side by side. Mr. Farley sped in to Town Hall Square for the win with a personal best time of 28:59. Mr. Plant held on for second with a time of 29:46 which chopped a good ten seconds of his personal best time.
Tom Bunker, a Coffee O regular, raced home in 36:49 which was a personal best time for him. Ann Tarrant crossed the line just two seconds later to take second place for the women. Ms. Tarrant's time of 36:51 was a personal best by over 40 seconds.
Dick Hill may have had the run of the night as he broke the 70 and over course record with a time of 38:11. Mr. Hill still had fresh legs after a long drive up to Falmouth from New Jersey earlier in the day, and he clipped three seconds off the record set by Sid Toabe over seven years ago. Sid Toabe was a Coffee O regular in its early years until he hung up the running shoes for good and retired from the sport in his mid 70's.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile race that is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth, it is sponsored by the Falmouth Track Club and Coffee Obsession of Queens Byway and Woods Hole.
