Friday Night 5 Mile
Coffee O Results
Molloy Leads Coffee-O Women
It was 81 degrees, and humid, and not a good night to run fast this week at the Coffee-O-Five. Despite the tough conditions, some very fast times were turned in this week. Sorting out the results was a logistical nightmare for the race directors this week, as the hot, sweaty runners caused the the sign-in sheets to be smeared and waterlogged and partly illegible.
Kara Molloy of Westford, won the womens race with a time of 31:10.
It was her first appearance at the Coffee-O-Five, and she plowed through the
heat and humidity, to turn in the fastest womens time of the year. She
already has plans to come back next June and run the race again.
Nanci Cahalane finished two minutes back, as she bested Susan Beale for third
place. It was Ms. Beales last Coffee-O-Five of the year, as she and
her husband will be returning home to Brussels, Belgium later in the week.
Kris Tholke took fourth, just ahead of Monica Hough.
Seventeen year-old Zeke Phillips of Newton set the early pace, before fading
to second down the homestretch. His time of 28:40 was one of the fastest high
school times run on the course. Zeke will be running cross-country at Amherst
College this fall. Mike Norton picked off Justin Neviackas with a mile to
go, as he finished third. Rich Lavers of Boston was fifth with a time of 31
minutes even.
The Coffee-O-Five is held every Friday night at 5:30, from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners are welcome to participate. The next big event on the Falmouth running circuit will be the annual Main Street Mile on September 9th.
