Hot times at Coffee-O Five
It must have been a fast night this Friday, as both the men’s and women’s
winners of this week's Coffee-O Five, turned in the fastest times of the year.
In addition four other runners ran personal best times. Helping to spur the
runners along were three new cheering sections which sprung up on the course
along Surf Drive and Beebe Acres Road.
Mike Norton dusted the field by over two minutes with a time of 27:23, the
fastest time run on the course in over two years. Justin Neviackas edged Jeff
List for third, with both runners cracking 31 minutes. Dave Brundage of Montclair,
Virginia edged Luc Claessens for third by only 3 seconds.
Nanci Cahalane of Norfolk, who manages to take in about three of four Coffee-O Five races a year, won the women’s race. She ran with a fancy electronic distance measuring device in her shoe, which amazingly gave her a reading of exactly 5.0 miles for the length of her run. Nancy Correia took second with a time of 33:17. Monica Hough turned in one of her best times to take third, as she ran just under 38 minutes. Susan Beale, who is here from Belgium for a month, finished fourth.
Dan Webb must be recovered from his back injury, as he ran a personal best
time of 35:10. Sharon Napier, Wayne Lamson, and Maggi Yates also ran personal
best times. Also running well were several runners from the Falmouth High
cross country team, who are starting to prepare for the upcoming season. Joe
McMenamy was the first Falmouth High harrier this week, as he matched strides
with his coach, Pete Sampson. Both ran 35 minutes even.
The Coffee-O-Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There is no entry fee or application needed. All runners are welcome to participate.
