Friday Night 5 Mile
Coffee O Results
O'Mara and Savage First at Coffee-O-Five
Fifty-four runners enjoyed another perfect summer running night at this weeks
Coffee-O-Five. Actually well over 60 runners were counted crossing the line,
but several runners escaped
without signing in.
Bill OMara led the way this week as he finished in just under six minute
per mile pace. Mr. OMaras last Coffee-O-Five finish was during
the winter when it was 50 degrees colder and he needed a reflective vest for
safety in the dark. Steve Faluotico followed one minute later, with Brian
Nelson taking third. Mr. Nelson started conservatively for a change this week
and his patience paid off. Instead of walking down Walker Street towards the
finish as he had in the past, he dashed home with a sub six minute last mile.
His finishing time of 31:43 was very
close to his personal best.
Once again the womens race was very close and competitive. In a battle of two Kathleens, it was Kathleen Savage edging Kathleen Thomas by only 11 seconds. Savages winning time was 37:22. Karin Lebherz Smith, finished third, only 16 seconds off the winning time.
Adam Ochs and Andrew Medley who are both students at the University of Michigan, made their Coffee-O-Five debuts. Mr. Ochs is a hurdler on the track team at Michigan. Soaring in from Litchfield, Connecticut was Brent "The Hawk" Hawkins. The Hawk is a former Quarterdeck bartender who still drops in for an occasional visit.
After the race the runners congregated around the worlds largest cooler,
which was supplied by the friendly folks at the Coffee Obsession coffee house.
The ice cold water was greatly
appreciated by all.
The Coffee-O-Five is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square
in Falmouth. There is no entry fee, and all runners are welcome to participate.
