It was another bad night for a run. It was cold, wet, and raining. The roads were full of slush, snow and large puddles. To top it all off, the wind was out of the northeast, meaning there was a strong headwind on the way in to slow the runners.
It wasn't a good night to run fast and certainly no records were set. There were only 15 hearty souls this week, and several of those runners were smart and ran the course earlier in the day when it was warm and sunny.
Leading the women this week were the two birthday girls - Laurie Fife and Doris Beatty. Ms. Beatty, who turned 66, had a very easy time bettering her age, as she finished with a time of 48 minutes. Ms. Fife, who turned 38, was somewhat at a disadvantage, but she took first place with a time of just over 41 minutes.
Both women will be running from Hopkinton to Boston on Patriots Day. Paul Hartel started his run 45 minutes late, and ran the course solo. His determination paid off as he garnered his first ever top five finish.
The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no registration required and all runners are welcome to participate.
